Emergency Preparedness - Reunification Plan

Emergency Preparedness

Dear Families,

Every year the staff and students at Parley’s Park practice drills for emergency situations such as Fire, Earthquake, Shelter-in-Place, and Lock Down. Another part of the emergency plan involves reuniting students with parents or guardians after a disaster. Our biggest challenge is to ensure that students are released only to previously designated adults and that we are able to track students’ whereabouts as they move through the process.

We would like to practice a reunification drill. This drill is scheduled to take place sometime within the next week. You will be notified by our automated school messenger system as to the day and time. This will help us test this system of communication. Participation is purely optional. The procedures for this drill are found below. If your family chooses not to participate, the release time will not change. Students will be dismissed at the regular time, depending on the day, and will go home as usual.

The following information will explain how that drill will be conducted:

(Bring a photo ID)

  1. During the drill, all doors to Parley’s Park will be locked, except the cafeteria door by the pickup/drop off area. Anyone coming to the school during those hours, wanting to check out their student(s) will need to go through the reunification process to collect their student.
  2. Park at the church or front parking lot, or on the street. Walk to cafeteria doors.
  3. Complete the checkout slips located on the cafeteria tables.
  4. Take the slips to the checkout table.       You will need to show a photo ID to the person at the check out table. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO ANYONE WITHOUT A PHOTO ID. PLEASE NOTE: If you have not completed and turned in your Blue Emergency Card, you will not be able to check your student out during this drill.
  5. A release slip will be given to a runner who will then bring the students to the exit area.
  6. Parents will enter the gym through the doors near the front of the stage to wait for their children. No one will be allowed into the halls. Your students will meet you by the stage.
  7. After you have picked up your children please leave through the outside doors on the opposite side of the stage.

Please be patient through this process.
