Earth Day 2015 at PPES
While this special day is practiced by some every day, it is celebrated by most
students at PPES on the designated day, April 22. Some students were quizzed over
lunch about what they can do to help Mother Earth. Others participated in an array
of crafts and chalk activities on the playground. It was a beautiful day, the perfect
way to celebrate our planet earth.
Earth Day was founded in 1970 by peace activist John McConnell and U.S. Senator
Gaylord Nelson. In 1990 it went global. It is a day/week intended to recognize and
change human behavior and provoke policy change. Soon after the 1970 declaration,
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was created, followed by the Clean Air,
Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.
Congratulations to the 2015 Parley's Park Science Fair winners and honorable mentions.
